Getting Your Home Based Business Off on the Right Track
When you thought about a home based business, did you just jump in and start or join the first thing that came to mind? Well, many people wanting to start a home business don’t set up a business plan. This is a serious mistake, and can lead to failure. The old axiom is indeed true: “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail”. Planning is the a critical step in having a successful home based business.
Here are some things people will say. . . have you heard this one before? “Since I’m just working for myself, there is no need for a business plan.” Would you go on a trip without a plan? Would you get married without a plan? Plans are good. They will help you get focused and stay that way. A good business plan will help you to think through all the aspects of your home based business and provide you with a roadmap to success. Without it, you will very likely get lost along the way.
How about this complaint. “I’ll have to invest in expensive software to get a good business plan.” Well, that’s just not true. Software may help your home based business, but you don’t need it. How do you think all those businessmen succeeded before the invention of the computer? They wrote out their plan, but now that you have a computer, you can use a word processing program and set up an outline of the steps you need to do.
If you think you will need a consultant, that is not necessary either. You are the one who knows what you are going to do with your home based business. If not, then all the consultants in the world can’t help you. Try a coach or mentor to guide you, rather than hiring someone to do things for you. Or a good friend who has been successful in some business. And you don’t need to complicate things. Keep your business plan as simple as possible in a way that you understand. .
In my home based business, my business plan is simple. I buy customers, and I am earning a good income in it because I earn commissions on the purchases of the customers.
